  • The Bugatti Chiron is officially the fastest car in the world on the exercise

Bugatti has brought former Formula 1 driver Juan-Pablo Montoya on his special Erha Lessien track in Germany, accompanied by a team from SGS-TUV Saar, a body responsible for certifying record performance.

Aside from a price tag that only a James Bond villain could love, there's nothing we don't covet in the Bugatti Chiron. An 8.0-liter W16 engine with nearly 1,500 horsepower will guarantee that, after all.

The Bugatti Chiron has broken the world record for the fastest 0-400kph-0 (0-249mph-0) run, achieving the feat in 41.96sec.

Last month Juan Pablo Montoya only needed 41.96 seconds to get the Chiron up to 249 miles per hour and then back to zero.

It marks the fastest time ever reached and recorded for this particular driving manoeuvre by a production auto.

The Chiron is packing an 8-liter, quad-turbo W-16 engine-really, two 15-degree V-8s nestled together-and produces a massive amount of horsepower (1,500, to be exact) across a very broad spectrum of the powerband. "Just like we did with the Chiron", said Wolfgang Dürheimer, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. Of course, the Chiron is a super sports vehicle that requires your full attention when you are behind the wheel. Traction control, meanwhile, does its level best to keep the wheels from spinning ineffectually. The acceleration bit took 32.6 seconds and 2.6km.

He's now hopeful of Bugatti allowing him to set the Chiron's official top speed, a test scheduled for 2018. After an incredible 9.3 seconds and 491 metres, the Chiron came to a halt. Slowing down is achieved via a powerful braking system that includes the aid of the rear wing which doubles as an air brake when needed.
