IOC: Los Angeles Meets All Requirements to Host 2028 Olympics

International Olympic Committee members will ratify an agreement among Los Angeles, Paris and Olympic leaders that awards the 2024 Olympics to Paris and the 2028 Olympics to Los Angeles.

"This IOC Evaluation Commission report underlines what a historic opportunity Los Angeles 2028 is for the City of Angels and the Olympic and Paralympic Movements".

The report also urges Paris - who will be formally named as hosts of the 2024 Games during the Session - and Los Angeles to "take full advantage of these opportunities and work in partnership with the IOC".

Los Angeles received concessions for agreeing to host four years later, including receiving a portion of the IOC's surplus from the Olympics to fund youth sports programs in the city.

The Evaluation Commission 2028 met by phone on 24 August to discuss the documentation submitted by Los Angeles.

The IOC's executive board meanwhile will hear updates on Tokyo's plans for the 2020 Olympics as well as Beijing's preparations for the 2022 Winter Games.

In the report published today, the Evaluation Commission confirms that Los Angeles will keep the 2024 venue master plan, and that UCLA will remain the Olympic Village. Transportation upgrades that have been scheduled to occur before 2028 are also cited in the document, as well as some budgetary changes that now account for inflation and negotiated changes to the host city contract.

LA 2028 CEO Gene Sykes said "LA 2028 is grateful to Evaluation Commission Chairman Patrick Baumann and his colleagues for their confidence in our readiness to host the Games and for their expert guidance throughout this two-year process".

"This now-vacant post will be filled by election during the forthcoming IOC Session in Lima", the spokesman added.
