  • The announcement of Hurricane Katia came minutes after the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Jose had formed in the open Atlantic

Hurricane Harvey hadn't even fizzled and Houston hadn't even dried out from record flooding before Hurricane Irma formed and also grew into a powerful Category 4 storm.

Jose, a Category 4 storm, had been passing north of the outer Caribbean islands and is expected to move away Saturday night, the National Hurricane Center said.

A hurricane watch was issued for Antigua, Barbuda, Aguilla, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy - numerous same islands devastated by Irma on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Tuesday's First Warning Forecast: Clouds, rain, and wind from Irma
The unsettled weather continues into Thursday with the chance for scattered evening storms and it remains in the low 80s. Cooler temperatures will begin to arrive on Wednesday and we will see an increased chance of rain showers.

If the storm tracks over these beleaguered islands, they could face destructive winds for the second time in four days and up to eight inches of rainfall.

A hurricane warning was out from Cabo Rojo to Laguna Verde.

In its 5 a.m. advisory, the NHC said the center of the storm was located about 435 miles north-northeast of Grand Turk Island and 655 miles north-northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico with wind speeds of 75 mph. While a 5- to 7-foot storm surge and damaging winds are likely close to where this hurricane makes landfall, torrential rains will affect a much larger area.

The remnants of Katia are expected to produce additional rainfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches over central and northern Veracruz, eastern Hidalgo, and northern Puebla through this afternoon.

Katia, located over Mexico, dissipated on September 9, 2017. He said calculations that measure strength and duration show the three current Atlantic storms set a one-day record for energy on Friday.
