An online petition for the revocation of Aung San Suu Kyi's Nobel Peace Prize has been launched on Change.org and have so far gathered about 400,000 signatures.

The de facto leader of Myanmar - also known as Burma - was awarded the Irish honour in 2012 following a two-decade struggle for democracy in the South East Asian country.

Nay San Lwin, a Rohingya activist and blogger based in Europe with contacts in northern Rakhine, said that according to witnesses, the Myanmar military, border guard police and Rakhine villagers came to Ah Lel Than Kyaw and burned the houses from Monday to Wednesday.

'We know that you know that human beings may look and worship differently - and some may have greater firepower than others - but none are superior and none inferior.

Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua called U. Win Myint to convey the concerns of its government and people over the ongoing violence against the Rohingya in Myanmar's Rakhine state, said a statement issued by the foreign ministry.

However, the 3-2 split decision provided Sharif family a chance to prove their innocence and clear their names from Panama leaks. It may be mentioned here that Nawaz Sharif , his children and son-in-law had filed petitions challenging the verdict.

"I certainly don't think it's illegitimate to ask that she be more vocal in her compassion for this really beleaguered population, but she inherited an absolutely terrible situation of Rakhine State", he said.

The UN has warned it is receiving "constant reports" of violent attacks by security forces - with claims that thousands of people have been killed or tortured. They accuse her of standing by as the crackdown on militants has expanded into a brutal ethnic cleansing of the entire Rohingya population in Myanmar.

Ms Suu Kyi has attracted criticism from around the world for failing to speak out about the violence.

"I'm very concerned about some of this global demonization of Daw Suu, which I think is overstated, and I think we need to be supportive", said Derek Mitchell, the former USA ambassador to Myanmar, told VOA's Burmese service.

The United States, a principle backer of Aung San Suu Kyi's civilian government that came to power in Myanmar a year ago, said there had been shortcomings on the part of Myanmar security forces and the government in dealing with the situation.

The amendment also expresses a sense of the Senate that individuals should be able to serve regardless of their gender identity. The Gillibrand-Collins amendment needs 60 votes to pass, and they have said they don't know if they have those votes.

"The Burmese government needs to grant access to independent monitors to determine the sources of fires and assess allegations of serious human rights violations relayed by Rohingya refugees who have fled to Bangladesh", Robertson said.

"Because Myanmar has refused access to human rights investigators the current situation can not yet be fully assessed, but the situation seems a textbook example of ethnic cleansing", he said.

Critics have accused Suu Kyi of not speaking out for the Rohingya and some have called for the Nobel Peace Prize she won in 1991 as a champion of democracy to be revoked.

An online petition calling for her to be stripped of her Nobel Prize has received almost 412,000 signatures online.

She was a key figure in the 1988 uprisings against the Burma Socialist Programme Party, which had run the country since 1962.

Irma to bring some wind and rain to our area later today
Hurricane Irma has weakened to a category 1 hurricane over central Florida and will continue to weaken as it moves northwest. Multiple bouts of rain are expected to move through the region, beginning Monday evening and wrapping up early Thursday.

It's not that Ms Suu Kyi is organising the killings (she does not control the military), or that they are entirely one-sided.
