  • It has been requested by Sharif family that review petitions should be heard by a five-member bench

The bench will be headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, while Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Azmat Saeed Shekih and Justice Ejazul Ahsan will be its members.

Justice Azmat said that the apex court had formed an implementation bench but the decision was to be ultimately made by the five-member bench.

When the three-judge bench took up the petitions filed by the deposed prime minister and his children, their counsel Salman Akram Raja and Khawaja Haris argued that a larger bench was competent to hear the matter.

It may be mentioned here that Nawaz Sharif, his children and son-in-law had filed petitions challenging the verdict.

According to Geo News, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said the two judges who had dissented in court's April decision only signed the final decision on July 28 and did not make any addition. Sharif has said he was never paid any salary by the firm. However, the 3-2 split decision provided Sharif family a chance to prove their innocence and clear their names from Panama leaks.

Along with the review petitions, a stay application was also submitted in the court, requesting the apex court to suspend the final operation of the July 28 judgement, in which the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was ordered to launch corruption references against the petitioners, till the petitions were pending.
