  • Tropical Storm Jose forms behind Irma; could be hurricane by Friday

Three hurricanes are in the Atlantic simultaneously: Katia, Jose, and Irma.

The space agency's own Kennedy Space Center is predicted to be among the many structures in Irma's path, which the US National Hurricane Center said was now moving over the Camaguey Archipelago of Cuba as a Category 5 hurricane.

At the beginning of this week President Enrique Peña Nieto ordered to activate the Maximum Alert Plan against Katia's impact in the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasters have predicted damaging winds, drenching rains and a unsafe storm surge from the Gulf of Mexico.

Florida allows some to return home
About a third of Florida's population (about 6.5 million people) were ordered to evacuate their homes ahead of the storm. Another man, in his 50s, was killed just outside Atlanta when a tree fell on his house, Sandy Springs police Sgt.

However, Katia took a different direction - southwest towards Mexico.

Hurricane Katia made landfall on Mexico's Gulf coast Friday night.

By Saturday afternoon, the hurricane is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm. Storms of Category 3 and above are defined as major hurricanes.

Irma has set records as the second-most intense Atlantic hurricane in recorded history.

Korea rejects new United Nations sanctions, vows to bolster nuke force

Hurricane Irma caused tremendous damage across parts of the Caribbean and Florida. As Jose nears, watches and warnings are in effect for several islands in the Lesser Antilles including St. Martin and Barbuda, which were devastated by Hurricane Irma earlier this week.

The peak of the season is usually around September 10, and the fourth hurricane of the season doesn't typically occur until about September 21.

Texas and Louisiana are still reeling from the flooding and destruction left by Hurricane Harvey at the end of August.
