The three new crewmates launched aboard the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 5.17 pm (3.17 a.m. Baikonur time Wednesday), orbited Earth four times, and docked at the space station.

Russian Federal Space Agency reports that Soyuz MS-06 manned spacecraft has delivered a crew of Expedition 53/54 to the International Space Station (ISS). Two of those crew members who will be spending five months onboard are NASA astronauts.

Tests and opening of the hatches was expected to take about 90 minutes before the capsule can enter the space station.

A Russian Soyuz spacecraft carrying two USA astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut has docked with the International Space Station, a NASA TV broadcast showed.

Joe Acaba and Mark Vande Hei of NASA and Alexander Misurkin of Roscosmos will launch Tuesday night to the International Space Station.

Speaking at the pre-launch news conference, Abaca, of Puerto-Rican heritage, said he would be taking "musica Latina" on-board.

The astronauts will be meeting up with the other half of Expedition 53 at ISS, who arrived in July - European Space Agency astronaut Paolo Nespoli, Russian cosmonaut Sergey Riazanski and NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik.

Vande Hei attended Benilde-Saint Margaret High School in St. Louis Park and received his bachelor's degree from St. John's University.
