  • A huge legal victory for Rebel

Hollywood star Rebel Wilson has been awarded $4.5 million in damages after she was defamed by the publisher of Woman's Day magazine.

An Australian court believes Rebel Wilson's pitch was flawless.

The amount is the "largest defamation damages award in Australian legal history", Wilson's lawyers said.

"Substantial vindication can only be achieved by an award of damages that underscores that Ms Wilson's reputation as an actress of integrity was wrongly damaged in a manner that affected her marketability in a huge worldwide marketplace", he said on Wednesday.

Bauer Media has issued a statement saying it's "considering today's judgement".

On Twitter, Wilson, who is in the United Kingdom and did not attend court, said she was going through the judgment with her lawyer and would make a statement later Wednesday.

They also found Bauer had said Wilson lied about having a hallucination about winning an Academy Award while sick with malaria, about her parents being dog trainers, about being related to USA entertainment entrepreneur Walt Disney and about being raised in a "ghetto" area of Sydney.

Ms Wilson said the case had exposed the "disgusting and disgraceful" conduct of some tabloid media and she looked forward to rebuilding her career.
