The announcement is part of the company's efforts to provide an exceptional shopping experience and ensures Target's 1,816 stores will be staffed to deliver a seamless experience for guests this holiday season, whether team members are helping guests directly or fulfilling online orders.

The goal is more than 40 percent higher than the 70,000 workers signed up a year ago, Target said Wednesday.

The retailer said Wednesday that the seasonal hires, an increase of 30,000 workers from the 70,000 people it hired a year ago, will stock shelves at its more than 1,800 stores or fulfill online orders that customers pick up in stores.

Online orders have soared since the Minneapolis-based company strengthened its digital business and increased the speed of deliveries. Prices at the retail giant are decreasing and the red-vested workforce is increasing by 100,000 this holiday season.
