A fiery accident involving an amphibious landing vehicle at Camp Pendleton left 15 Marines injured today, authorities reported.

However, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to talk with reporters, said that at least three Marines were being taken by helicopter to a local hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

Fifteen Marines were injured in total, the statement said, and all are now being treated for various unknown injuries.

Camp Pendleton's media relations office affirmed there was an occurrence including an AAV fire on base, yet guided inquiries to first Marine Division.

The Assault Amphibious Vehicle had an accident and caught on fire, a Pendleton spokesman said. One Marine has been taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and is in stable condition.

Although the vehicle was engulfed in flames, all of the Marines were able to escape.
