Less than 5,000 Georgia Power customers in Lowndes County were still without electricity at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The cooperatives are providing assistance through mutual aid agreements between the nation's almost 1,000 electric cooperatives, which help one another during natural disasters, including power restoration efforts.

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) assembled a team of approximately 19,500 restoration workers, the largest such effort in the company's efforts.

Due to high winds, fallen trees and extensive damage, extended power outages are expected to continue.
