Trump says people using 'Merry Christmas' again

Speaking to a packed crowd at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., Trump argued political correctness has gotten in the way of celebrating the holiday.

"I appointed and confirmed a Supreme Court Justice in the mold of the late great Justice Antonin Scalia, the newest member of the Supreme Court, Justice Neil Gorsuch", said Trump. He also spoke at the summit during the campaign, promising he would return as the first sitting president to address them.

'We protect religious liberty, ' he said.

"To protect the unborn, I have reinstated a policy first put in place by President Ronald Reagan".

"Well, guess what, we're saying "Merry Christmas" again", Trump said to raucous cheers.

Trump, nine months into his presidency, has found it harder to get things done than the ease with which he made promises on the campaign trail, making speeches to adoring audiences like Friday's in Washington key to boosting the President's morale.

During a 2016 meeting with religious leaders, Trump said current USA leadership was "selling Christianity down the tubes".

Trump's remarks were part of the annual Values Voter Summit, a national gathering of socially conservative activists. The event is sponsored by the Family Research Council.
